This online real-time presentation focused on biomaterial delivery vehicles for cells and biologically active molecules used as novel therapeutics Cells and biologically active macromolecules are increasingly being used as novel therapeutics in diseases for which there are either no or inadequate current therapies. A requirement for their successful use, however, is the development of appropriate delivery vehicles that can provide these cells and macromolecules at the desired time/place, and that can guide the function of the cells in the body that ultimately recreate the desired tissue structure and function. This presentation will provide an overview of biodegradable polymer systems that accomplish these goals by functioning in many respects as synthetic extracellular matrices, and will provide specific examples of the delivery of instructive signals from these systems to affect tissue engineering and regeneration.
