This presentation focused on ion channels as drug targets, issues related to development of novel therapeutics and exciting new technology that will help drive the process.

The goals of modern drug discovery and development efforts are to bring forward new chemical entities that effectively impact human health in a beneficial way. The last decade has provided an unprecedented wealth of information on the “parts list” of the human organism, yet the functional wiring diagram for physiological and pathophysiological states is in rudimentary form. The molecular and functional advances made recently have led to significant insights, and ion channels represent an important class of drug targets. They serve as important models for understanding simple and complex multi-gene human disease syndromes. Understanding their complexity and diversity will lead to novel human therapeutics and a better understanding of human diseases.

Be Sure to Participate in this Virtual Seminar. You will be able to "attend" this real-time tutorial from anywhere that you have an internet connection.from your office or from your conference room.

One Low Registration Fee entitled you to a “site” registration, which enables you to invite your colleagues and members of your staff to participate, whether gathered around a computer or in a conference room with speakerphone and screen.

It Couldn’t Be Easier! You’ll view the presentation over your web browser. On a separate telephone line (which you can put on speakerphone), you will hear the audio and be able to ask questions of the presenter. You can also submit questions from your keyboard.

Time Well Spent! No travel, no time away. From your office or conference room, this hour-and-a-half seminar will provide you with an authoritative presentation that includes ample time for your questions and discussion. Registrations will be limited to ensure interactive participation.

The 1½–hour presentation will:

  • Review ion channels from a therapeutic perspective including structure–function and pharmacology
  • recent findings on mutations in ion channels and the related disorders: “Ion Channelopathies”
  • Review and understand issues around ion channels as therapeutic drug targets
  • Briefly discuss drug safety issues and ion channels
  • Review existing and emerging technologies for ion channel drug discovery
